Pressure is building on fractious Republicans over legislation to prevent a partial government shutdown, as the Democratic-led Senate is expected to strip a tea party-backed plan to defund the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as "Obamacare," from their bill. House Speaker John Boehner said Monday he wants Jeb Bush to run for president.

“Jeb Bush has been my friend, I think he’d make a great president and I’ve been nudging him for some time,” Boehner said during a conversation at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, according to the Washington Post.

He was also asked about the prospect of fellow Ohio Republican, Gov John Kasich, running for president. “I love John Kasich,” he responded. “We play golf together.”

The Speaker added: “I’m not endorsing anybody.”
