Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) on Wednesday told TPM he is still talking to people and figuring out the necessary steps to create a super PAC to counter Karl Rove’s new group, the Conservative Victory Project. Rove’s super PAC aims to back disciplined candidates who can help Republicans win back a majority in the Senate, and to avoid nominating candidates like Richard Mourdock and Todd Akin, who got into hot water over comments about rape.

Walsh announced his plans to start a super PAC on Twitter Tuesday. In an email Wednesday, Walsh told TPM, “If Rove wants a fight for the soul of the Republican Party, bring it on.”

“His new super PAC says Republicans have to sound like Democrats to win,” Walsh added. “Instead what we need are Republicans who will make the case for freedom and limited government and fight like hell for those causes. That’s how we win. Let the battle begin.”
