Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, the wife of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), said Wednesday that her husband, who has been on medical leave since June 10, may not return to Capitol Hill until after November’s election.

“That’s still very much dependent on his doctor’s orders,” Sandi Jackson said, when asked about when her husband would return to work, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. “I haven’t had very much experience with the issue of mental health. So, we’re completely reliant on what the doctors say with respect to the appropriate time for his return… At some point in time, he will come back. I don’t know whether that will be before the election or after the election.”

Over the summer, Jackson Jr. was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and spent time in treatment in Arizona and Minnesota.
