A pair of bombs exploded in Iraq late on Monday, killing nine and bringing the day’s death total to 116 following a series of attacks aimed at the countries Shi’ite population. Reuters reports that the overnight bombs, which went off in Baquba and Baghdad, also injured 31 others.

While no groups have claimed responsibility for the bombings, Iraqi security officials blamed local members of al Qaeda.
