The AP reports that Iranian envoy Saeed Jalili, speaking with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday, has said Iran and Syria are in an “axis of resistance” that Tehran will not allow to break. Jalili appeared in a televised appearance with Assad, and, according to Syrian state television, said, “Iran will absolutely not allow the axis of resistance, of which it considers Syria to be a main pillar, to be broken.”
Assad responded by noting that his regime is “intent on cleansing the country from terrorists and combating terrorism without leniency.”
