Instagram on Monday launched new user profiles specifically for desktop web browsers, a major departure for the popular photo-sharing social network, which began as an iPhone app in 2010 and expanded to Android in April, before Instagram was itself acquired by Facebook for a whopping $1 billion. Perhaps as a consequence of that acquisition, Instagram’s new user profiles on the Web look highly similar to Facebook’s own profiles. Instagram said the profiles would be rolling out to all of its 80 million to 100 million users in the “next week or so.”
