It’s an outlier, but a new snap poll of South Carolina from InsiderAdvantage shows former House Speaker Newt Gingrich up by three points ahead of the Palmetto State’s Republican primary vote on Saturday. Other polls have shown the race tightening, but the InsiderAdvantage survey, a snap poll from Wednesday night, shows Gingrich with 32 percent of the vote for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s 29.
“If that stays in that direction he will win this primary,” according to InsiderAdvantage chief chief pollster Matt Towery as quoted in Newsmax, for whom the poll was conducted. “But Newt Gingrich is his own worst enemy. He needs to stay on message and shut up.”
