Attorney General Eric Holder adamantly denied that the Department of Justice ever prosecuted journalists as part of effort to crack down on leaks of classified information on Thursday, and reaffirmed it will not do so in the future.

“The Department has not prosecuted, and as long as I’m Attorney General, will not prosecute any reporter for doing his or her job,” he said at a congressional hearing.

Holder came under fire earlier this month when DOJ attorneys argued in an affidavit that a Fox News journalist was a “co-conspirator” as part of a 2010 leak investigation.
