Attorney General Eric Holder acknowledged an “increasing number of concerns” about the New York City Police Department’s surveillence of Muslim and Arab communities at a congressional hearing on Tuesday and said DOJ was reviewing complaints but had not opened a formal investigation into the issue.
“If we find that this is a problem in New York, it is something that we will investigate. It is something at this point, I don’t think we have an open investigation, but it is not something that we’re not cognizant of,” Holder said.
“One of the things we’re going to be looking at is what is the nature of the complaints that we are getting, can we make some preliminary determination if there is a basis for that and then on that basis we would take action,” Holder said.
