“The Bible,” the miniseries that was a ratings coup for the History Channel earlier this year, will have a sequel that will air on NBC, the New York Times reported Monday.
NBC announced that it’s purchased the rights to “A.D.: Beyond the Bible,” the follow-up to the History Channel hit that premiered in March. Like the original, the sequel will be supervised by Mark Burnett, the producer behind reality shows like “Survivor” and “The Voice.” According to the Times, “Beyond the Bible” will “center on the work of the apostles and early Christians in trying to survive Roman oppression in the years after the crucifixion.”
“The Bible” gained some attention for the uncanny resemblance between the Satan character and President Barack Obama. Burnett and others affiliated with the mini-series dismissed the similarities as “utter nonsense.”
