Hillary Clinton on Friday morning defended New Yorkers from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who has recently tried to attack Donald Trump for embodying “New York values.”

Cruz recently tried to distinguish himself from Trump by noting that the real estate mogul has “New York values,” and the Texas senator elaborated on his definition of those values during the Thursday night Republican presidential debate.

“Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage. Focus [is] around money and the media,” Cruz said.

Trump hit back at Cruz by describing how New York City residents reacted in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought, and we saw more death and even the smell of death—nobody understood it,” Trump said during the debate. “And it was with us for months. The smell. The air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched, and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers, and I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made.”
