Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, the former North Dakota attorney general who is now running for the Senate, is out with a new positive spot touting her work to keep child predators behind bars. In the ad, Heitkamp talks about a time when, as attorney general, she urged the state legislature to pass a law to allow the state to keep a child rapist in in custody after his sentence was served. When the law didn’t pass, the man left custody and raped again. “That’s when they finally passed my law,” Heitkamp says in the ad, “one of the toughest in the country, keeping predators after their prison time.”

The 30-second spot goes on air statewide Tuesday. Heitkamp is running against Republican Rep. Rick Berg.
