Freshman Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) said Sunday that she did not support the gun control measures, detailed Sunday in the Washington Post, that the Obama administration is hoping to push through Congress.
“I don’t think that proposal necessarily fit the bill for me,” she said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
In a separate appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Heitkamp called the plans “way in extreme.”
“I think you need to put everything on the table, but what I hear from the administration – and if the Washington Post is to be believed – that’s way, way in extreme of what I think is necessary or even should be talked about. And it’s not going to pass,” she said.
Heitkamp, who hails from a red state, is a member of the National Rifle Association and has an ‘A’ rating from the group.
