Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told a Las Vegas TV program that he’s hoping to work out a deal where Republicans stop abusing the filibuster.

“End the filibuster? No, I don’t think we should get rid of the filibuster,” Reid told the local public affairs show “To the Point” in a taping, the Las Vegas Sun reported Tuesday. “It works both ways. I’m not here beating the drum to change the filibuster for everything. It has its place, but it shouldn’t be abused.”

Reid argued that any president ought to be able to appoint his or her cabinet picks.

“I said when I left for recess that I was going to work with Republicans to try to get something done and I am going to do that,” he said. “I do know this, you cannot have — whether the new president is Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton — you can’t have a president of the United States who can’t have their team.”
