The office of Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) on Tuesday suggested that she is receptive to an expansion of background checks for firearms purchases, News-Record.com reported.
A spokeswoman for the senator said that Hagan’s support will ultimately be contingent with everything that’s included in the legislation, but the North Carolina Democrat also favors tougher penalties for gun trafficking as well as new measures to bolster school safety — both of which will be included in the Senate bill. The spokeswoman said that Hagan likely won’t be supporting a reinstatement of the assault weapons ban, however.
