Libertarian gun rights activist Adam Kokesh was arrested Tuesday night in his northern Virginia home on charges related to gun and drug violations, the Washington Post reported.
The arrest was announced in a statement posted on Kokesh’s website.
According to the Post, the search warrant was served by U.S. Park Police, which oversees Freedom Plaza, the Washington, D.C. park where Kokesh recorded a video in which he can be seen loading a shotgun — a violation of the district’s gun laws.
Police confirmed late last week that they were investigating Kokesh for the video.
Kokesh said earlier this week that the shotgun video was an act of “civil disobedience.” He was being held at Fairfax County, Va. Adult Detention Center, according to the Post. Herndon, Va. police assisted with the search of Kokesh’s home.
Kokesh had planned to stage a late-May march with protesters carrying armed rifles from Arlington, Va. to Washington before canceling the event, which would have also been a violation of D.C. gun laws.
