Republican state Sen. Van Wanggaarrd is not conceding in the recall race for his Racine seat, the one remaining race that Wisconsin Democrats have touted as the silver lining to give them control of the chamber after Gov. Scott Walker’s victory in his banner recall race.

Democratic former state Sen. John Lehman won the final tally, 51 percent to Wanggaarrd’s 49 percent, in a rematch from their 2010 race.

But Wangaarrd is not giving up, the local NBC affiliate reports. “We know that there are a number of outstanding absentee ballots, voting irregularities, and that there were problems across the county in the unofficial tally of ballots,” he said. “People across the state and country have asked that I immediately ask for a recount. However, we all know that the best decisions are made when well-rested and after consideration of all options.”
