Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) gave a nod of approval Wednesday to the appointment of Susan Rice as national security adviser, arguing that America’s ambassador to the United Nations was the scapegoat after the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya.

As he did last year, Isakson contended that Rice was being treated unfairly for using erroneous talking points about the Benghazi attack during several appearances on Sunday morning talk shows. Moreover, the Georgia Republican noted that, unlike the top position at the State Department for which Rice was reportedly considered earlier this year, the position of national security adviser doesn’t require Senate confirmation.

“Well, you know a lot of people are raising concern because of Benghazi but I have said from the beginning that I think she was thrown under the bus and given the information that she repeated on the Sunday shows,” Isakson said during an appearance on MSNBC. “I think the focus still should be on the State Department and in the administration. She’s a competent individual, was in the Clinton administration, this is a non-confirmable position so she’s going to be the security adviser.”
