Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) re-iterated on Wednesday that he’s supporting Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) over Liz Cheney in Wyoming’s Republican Senate primary next year, though he said he has high regard for the former vice president’s daughter.
Almost immediately after Cheney announced her intention to challenge Enzi on Tuesday, Barrasso made it clear that he’s backing the incumbent. On Wednesday, Barrasso told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd that while he has “great respect” for former Vice President Dick Cheney and his family, next year’s Senate race isn’t the right time for Liz Cheney to enter the political arena.
“I think that she’s terrific and she has a future that is very, very bright,” Barrasso said of Cheney. “I just think this is the wrong race at the wrong time.”
