A pollster for House Republicans said that the recent controversies that threaten to distract from President Barack Obama’s ambitious second term agenda provide an opening to the GOP entering next year’s midterms, but the ultimate fallout is not yet certain.
What this does is it gives Republicans the opportunity to gain the initiative in terms of defining the policy context and the debate,” pollster David Winston told the New York Times in a story published online Thursday. “But it’s an opportunity. It’s not a conclusion.”
