Former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds (R) raised $184,000 in the first quarter of 2013, much lower than the amount he raised at the end of last year and well below the total raked in by a potential GOP rival in the 2014 U.S. Senate race, the Argus Leader reported.

Rounds raised a little more than $270,000 in a little more than a month at the end of 2012, shortly after he announced that he planned on running in next year’s contest.

The former governor’s first quarter total is dwarfed by the $270,000 raised by Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD), who has yet to announce if she’ll throw her hat in the 2014 race. If Noem opts to run in the Senate race, she will be allowed to use those campaign funds.

Rounds has $369,000 in the bank, compared with $287,000 in the bank for Noem.

Update: This post has been corrected to note that Rounds has $369,000 in the bank, not $385,000 as was initially reported by the Argus Leader.
