A San Francisco judge ruled decisively against software giant Oracle on Thursday, issuing his decison that the company’s Java application programming interface (API) for mobile devices isn’t protected under U.S. copyright law, the Groklaw blog reported. The news is a huge win for Google, which Oracle had sued for using Java’s API in Google’s Android operating system.
The motion is the last part of an initial three part ruling (others here) in Oracle’s two-year-old lawsuit against Google. Oracle accused Google of copyright and patent infringment.
