Google on Wednesday made a major play for further enterprise adoption of its Android mobile operating system, launching a private version of Google Play, its official Android app store, specifically for businesses. The new “Google Play Private Channel” gives companies a secure place to distribute only specific, trusted apps to employee devices.

The move is likely to be a big blow to flagging BlackBerry maker Research-In-Motion, which rose to success in the early 2000s in no small part due to its comprehensive support for business mobile IT needs, and which still counts business customers as its most loyal userbase as other individual users have flocked to Google Android and the Apple iPhone.
