Google on Friday published a new interactive world map, separate from Google Maps, which it has been working on. The map shows the trade of small arms — “such as revolvers, assault rifles and light machine guns,” which the search giant says are behind 60 percent of violent deaths — from 1992 to 2010. Google obtained the data from the Peace Research Institute Oslo, a Norwegian institute that studies the “driving forces behind violent conflict and on ways in which peace can be built.”
