Police said a young girl was looking for seashells Monday at Coney Island when she stumbled upon a loaded gun on the beach.

WNBC reported that the 10-year-old was at the beach with her mother when she came across the 9 mm handgun in the sand. The mother turned the gun over to a lifeguard, who then called police.

Police said the weapon was filled with sand and had to be sawed into pieces in order to make it safe to handle. The handgun had one bullet inside.
