Newt Gingrich has suggested not only that young children from poor neighborhoods become assistant janitors, but that college students should also get part-time jobs and work their way through school. At an event Saturday he said: “I would tell students: ‘Get through as quick as you can. Borrow as little as you can. Have a part-time job.’ But that’s very different from the culture that has grown up in the last 20 years.”
But as the Washington Post reports, Gingrich himself did not work to put himself through school — his wife did. In addition to living off his wife’s income, Gingrich also called up his parents, told them he didn’t want to work, and began receiving a monthly stipend his stepmother and father.
