A Georgia school system is considering a proposal that would equip its campuses with rifles locked in safes in case of emergency, WSBTV reported Wednesday.

The rifles would be placed at Gainesville High School, Gainesville Middle School and Wood’s Mill Academy, according to Superintendent Merrianne Dyer. The proposal, expected to come to a vote in October, was put forward by Gainsville police after the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in Connecticut.
