Former New York Gov. George Pataki (R) suspended his presidential campaign on Thursday after his son-in-law suffered a stroke, according to the New York Times.

His son-in-law, Dr. David Levy, was hospitalized on Tuesday after he suffered a stroke on a Seattle-bound flight from Chicago, according to a statement from the Pataki campaign. The plane was diverted to Fargo, N.D., where Levy was hospitalized. He will be transported to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago on Thursday, where he will remain in intensive care.

“This episode is a shock to us all, as David, only 30 years of age, is a strong young man who enjoyed excellent health. We are praying for his recovery and welcome everyone’s prayers and good wishes,” the Pataki campaign statement reads.

Pataki canceled campaign events in New Hampshire, but a spokesman for the campaign told the Times that Pataki hopes to begin campaigning again next week.
