Gallup: Obama Approval Averages 47 Percent Through May

President Obama averaged 47 percent approval during the month of May, according to numbers from Gallup. “Obama’s May job approval ratings remain highly differentiated by party, with Obama receiving 84% approval among Democrats, 44% among independents, and 12% among Republicans,” Gallup wrote. “Since his recent low point in August of last year, Obama has gained seven points among Democrats, nine points among independents, and three points among Republicans.”

In terms of Obama’s re-election bid, Gallup data also shows former President George W. Bush also at 47 percent at this point during the 2004 race, although most incumbent presidents enjoyed higher ratings at this point in their campaigns. The TPM Poll Average of President Obama’s approval rating at 47.7 percent at the moment.
