A new poll from Gallup shows Congress has tied its own dubious record: approval of the legislative body is at 10 percent in a new national poll, an all-time low in Gallup polling that it also hit in February. Eight-three percent of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing. From Gallup:

Americans’ views of Congress are so bad that it has now been more than a year since Gallup’s monthly assessment was as high as 20%.

It is difficult to pinpoint precise causes for these extraordinarily negative views, although the continuing poor economy is certainly a major factor. The fact that control of Congress is now divided, with a Republican majority in the House and a Democratic majority in the Senate, may provide an opportunity for Americans of all political persuasions to dislike some aspect of Congress. With Congress divided, however, it is difficult to assess what impact its low ratings will have on the November elections, now less than three months away.

The PollTracker Average shows Congressional approval at 13.3 percent in all public polling, against 80.8 percent who disapprove.
