A survey by Gallup released Friday showed that Alabama, North Dakota and Wyoming are the three most conservative states in America, while the District of Columbia, Massachusetts and Oregon rank as the most liberal.
Roughly half the residents in Alabama (50.6 percent), North Dakota (48.6 percent), Wyoming (48.6 percent), Mississippi (48.2 percent) and Utah (48 percent) identify themselves as conservatives.
Compared to the most conservative states, a much smaller portion of residents in the most left-leaning states identified as liberal. The District of Columbia (40.8 percent) topped the list, while Massachusetts was a distant second (30.5 percent). Oregon (29.3 percent) and Vermont (29.2 percent), while Deleware (28.4 percent) and Connecticut (28.4 percent) were tied for fifth.
