GA Schooled Used Slavery Analogy In Math Lesson

A third-grade class in Georgia used a slavery analogy to teach a math lesson, including these two controversial questions: “Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?” and “If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?”

CBS News reports that teachers were trying to provide a cross-curricular activity, because students recently read a book about Fredrick Douglas. The lesson has led to some push back, especially from the state’s NAACP.
