The Federal Trade Commission on Friday announced it had reached a settlement with the mobile social networking app Path over alleged privacy violations, including collecting users’ address book contacts without their knowledge and collecting children’s information without their parents consent. Path has agreed to pay a fine of $800,000 to settle the latter charges and has also agreed to undergo regular independent privacy audits over the next 20-years (similar to FTC settlements reached with Google and Facebook).

Read the FTC’s full complaint here. The announcement came following the announcement of FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz’s resignation and ahead of an FTC press conference on mobile app privacy at 10:30 a.m. EST
