National Republicans may be pulling out of Mark Sanford’s race against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch for South Carolina’s open 1st District, but tea party group FreedomWorks is jumping into the fray.
“Mark Sanford will be a consistent vote to get spending under control, pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, repeal and replace ObamaCare, and make the tax code fairer and simpler for all Americans,” Matt Kibbe, president of Freedomworks PAC, said in a statement Tuesday. “FreedomWorks PAC activists across the District support Mark Sanford and we will be taking action in this final week to make sure Mark Sanford represents District 1 taxpayers in Washington.”
The NRCC withdrew their support for Sanford this month after trespassing charges brought by his ex-wife came to light. Sanford is scheduled to appear in court over the matter shortly after the May 7 election.
