In a press release Sunday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced that Florida will not implement two optional portions of the health care reform law in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the law. Scott joins Govs. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana in stating that he would reject both the Medicaid expansion and refuse to build the insurance exchanges in Florida.
“The real problem with health care is that costs continue to rise,” Scott says in the release, echoing the major GOP talking point on health care reform. “That’s why I believe we need more choice for patients, more free-market competition, increased accountability for providers, and incentives for personal responsibility… Unfortunately, ObamaCare doesn’t do any of those things.”
The release notes that if implementation of these two provisions is required, “the state will follow the law.”
