Sarasota, Florida police officer Andrew Halpin arrested a Florida man on July 18. After handcuffing and booking the man, Halpin started to toss peanuts into the intoxicated man’s mouth like a zoo animal, the Herald-Tribune reported Monday.

The man, intoxicated and handcuffed, couldn’t catch the peanuts with him mouth and the food fell to the floor, the newspaper reported.

Halpin helped him out by pushing the food with his boot toward the man, who then began eating the peanuts off the floor, according to the newspaper.

The Herald-Tribune reported that the officer was using “dog commands” toward the homeless man.

Halpin was suspended Monday after the police chief saw the security footage.
