Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina on Monday said people were relieved that six policemen were charged in connection to the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray.
Fiorina’s comments came during a conference call with reporters a few hours after she formally jumped into the 2016 Republican primary for president.
On Friday, during a week in which Baltimore saw rioting, Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said she’d filed manslaughter, murder, and assault charges against six police officers who arrested Gray.
“I think everyone was relieved to see the six policemen charged in Baltimore,” Fiorina said.
In order to prevent repeat arrests like Gray’s, Fiorina said that police officers and vehicles should have cameras.
“In terms of immediate policy prescriptions, it’s clear that all police officers and all vehicles used to convey prisoners need to be equipped with cameras,” Fiorina said.
Last week, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton laid out a criminal justice reform plan where she also said police departments all over the country should be equipped with body cameras.
“That will improve transparency and accountability, it will help good people on both sides of the lens,” Clinton said.
