Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 19-year-old accused of the Boston marathon bombings, remains in “serious” condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the FBI announced Monday.

Tsarnaev is responding to inquiries from officials “mostly in writing” due to an apparent injury to his throat that makes speaking difficult. Investigators said the injury may be the result of a suicide attempt.
