Facebook Releases Updated, Faster Android App

Facebook on Thursday released an updated Android app that the company promises is faster, smoother and all around a better experience than what Android users have had to deal with for years. The app is native, that is, built to run mostly off the phone itself, rather than previous HTML5 version that ran large portions off the Web, as TechCrunch reports. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in September publicly lamented that his company wasted time building an HTML5 Facebook app rather than a native one. 

The move catches Facebook Android app users up to their counterparts on Apple’s iPhone and iOS software, who received a faster and improved Facebook app back in August. Here’s a promo image of the new Facebook for Android:
