Facebook has been granted a “confidential treatment” order by the Securities and Exchange Commission, allowing the company to withhold potentially relevant investing information from its second quarter earnings report filed in late July, according to a document filed on the SEC website on Monday.

The withheld information pertains to a portion of the second quarter earnings report detailing an agreement between Facebook and social game company Zynga, maker of the popular FarmVille series of Facebook games as well as Words With Friends.

The confidential treatment order gives Facebook the legal right to withhold the information from the public and investors until at least the end of the year, December 31, 2012.
