Facebook added a new “Life Event” option for the Timeline on Monday: “Registered to vote.” The new option can be found among those listed when a user goes to post a new item on their timeline from their profile page. Clicking “Life Event,” the option is found under the “Travel & Experiences” sub-category. Here’s Facebook’s step-by-step image instructional:

The move marks Facebook’s increasing bid to become a political force in time for the 2012 U.S. general elections. Earlier this summer, Facebook highlighted a list of political apps built by outside developers on top of the website that harness a user’s social graph (all of their Friends and interactions) to allow them to advocate on behalf of certain candidates, issues and platforms. Facebook has also partnered with CNN for an “I’m Voting” app and an “Election Insights” page

It also marks Facebook’s expansion of its “Life Events” section. Earlier this year, Facebook added the option to post a status about registering as an organ donor
