Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has resigned an honorary chairmanship of the Obama campaign in order to fundraise for Priorities USA, the super PAC backing Obama, the Washington Post reports

From the Post:

Emanuel said in a brief interview early Wednesday that he was “helping, not running” the super PAC. “It’s that simple. I’m going to help where I can to get the President re-elected and this is where I can probably be most helpful in the final days.”

Priorities USA raised $10 million in August, its best month yet, but still lags far behind Republican super PACs. One Democratic strategist told the Post that Emanuel could make a big difference.

“There is already a lot of buzz about Rahm’s move among donors at the convention,” said David Rosen, a Democratic consultant and strategist who is in Charlotte attending the convention and private sessions for donors and campaign insiders. “Rahm will turbo charge the fundraising for Priorities USA,” he said.
