In what could be a telling sign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee cancelled an ad buy set for the end of September in the Florida Senate race, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

Republicans seized on the move as evidence that Democrats were “bailing” on Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL) in his race against Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), according to The Miami Herald.

For it’s part the DSCC claimed that they delayed the ad buy initially set to run Sept. 20-26 in order to free up resources for spending closer to Election Day.

“This spending is simply being moved to come later in the election to backload our current Florida buy,” a DSCC official told The Miami Herald.

Murphy is locked in a tough race against incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). According to TPM’s PollTracker Average, Rubio is leading Murphy 44.1 to 41.7.
