Donald Trump donated to Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) leadership political action committee in January.

That’s according to The Hill which said on Thursday that the real estate mogul gave $5,000 to Cruz’s Jobs Growth and Freedom Fund. That amount is the maximum amount a person can donate to a political action committee under current election law.

Trump has recently been full of praise for Cruz.

“One of the reasons I like Ted Cruz so much, is that he’s not controversial,” Trump recently joked according to The Hill. “He shouldn’t be controversial because what he is doing is right. He took a stand recently, that if he had just a little backing —and Ted and I have spoken about this— from other Republicans…he would have negotiated one hell of a deal. It might not have ended ObamaCare, but you would have really gotten a big chunk of it.”

It’s a bit of a contrast from about a year ago when Trump suggested that Cruz is “perhaps” not eligible to run for president because he was born in Canada.

“If he was born in Canada, perhaps not,” Trump said according to ABC News.

Trump has been one of the most famous figures that pushed the debunked rumor that President Barack Obama may have had a fake American birth certificate.
