Donald Trump has sued HBO talk show host Bill Maher for $5 million, arguing that he fulfilled his end of a bet by proving that he is not the son of an orangutan and that Maher must fulfill his end, USA Today reported.
On the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” show last month, Maher said he would give $5 million to Trump’s charity of choice if he could prove he’s not “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump responded by producing his birth certificate, showing he is the son of Fred Trump.
Trump filed the lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court for breach of contract, contending that the comment was not a joke. TMZ posted the court documents.
Maher apparently responded to the lawsuit on Twitter:
