Despite raising a $42 million in her successful Senate bid, Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren is asking supporters to chip in a little bit more to help her campaign out of the red, the Boston Globe reports.
In an e-mail to supporters, the senator-elect from Massachusetts revealed that her campaign is in debt and asked for donations to help her out of the hole. Though she did not disclose the sum in her e-mail, a campaign official said Warren owes $400,000.
Warren’s email cites extra coffee and pizza for a surplus of volunteers throughout the campaign as a cause of the over-spending.
Democratic strategist Mo Elleithee told the Globe that “for a $42 million campaign to go just barely over budget speaks to some pretty good management.”
