Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran on Friday called for authorities to investigate the state GOP’s voter registration operations following the arrest of a man who allegedly threw eight voter registration forms into a dumpster.

“Virginians deserve answers as to how this person was still working for Republican campaigns here and whether his behavior was directed by his superiors or party officials,” Moran said in a statement. “Given their rhetoric about eliminating voter fraud, Republicans should welcome an investigation to prove that these disturbing incidents are isolated and not a central feature of the GOP campaign effort this year.”

Colin Small, 23, was employed by a contractor working for the Republican Party of Virginia before he was arrested on Thursday. The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said they had no indication that the activity was widespread but said additional charges were possible.
