As the debate rages on over whether to label Edward Snowden a hero or traitor, one Democratic senator made it clear Monday how he views the 29-year-old government contractor and source of the recent National Security Agency leaks.

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) told reporters that Snowden, believed to be hiding in Hong Kong, should be extradited and prosecuted.

“This is an act of treason. This is deliberately taking highly, highly super-compartmented classified information and giving it directly out,” Nelson said, according to CNN. “He ought to be prosecuted under the law. Extradited and prosecuted. We cannot have national security if our secrets cannot be kept.”
