A Maine Democrat emails that former Gov. John Baldacci (D-ME) is considering a run for Senate in light of Sen. Oylmpia Snowe’s (R-ME) retirement. The source said Baldacci was discussing it with his family last night.

Baldacci’s brother, Joe, told Bangor Daily News blogger Matthew Gagnon, “I think it will be likely that my brother will run.”

As for the scramble that would be set off were either Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) or Rep. Mike Michaud (D-ME) to run for Senate, the source offered this timeline.

“There will both credible candidates and complete jokes who throw their hats in to run for the two congressional seats. But with the filing deadline being March 15 and everyone needing to start signature gathering over from zero, this weekend is going to be make or break. Some won’t qualify for the ballot,” the source wrote.
