The death of Michael Hastings, an award-winning journalist journalist who contributed to Rolling Stone and reported for BuzzFeed, has been ruled an accident, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office announced Tuesday.

The 33-year-old died in a car accident in Los Angeles in June. He had a “small amount of methamphetamine” and THC in his system, but the finding was deemed “unlikely contributory to death,” the LA Times reported. Hastings was found with a medical marijuana card in his wallet, a prescription for post-traumatic stress from his time reporting in the Middle East.
